At age seven, David L. Young was placed in an institution. His life there was a troubled one. Suffering from a cleft palate and hyperactivity, he was misdiagnosed with various mental disorders and often over medicated. He resisted doctor’s attempts to categorize him and fought, sometimes fiercely, for his independence of mind and spirit.
David creates amazing art from insects and microscopes. He sees things in them that others do not. His vision certainly is uncommon. The following pages contain some of my favorite photographs. The images are microphotographs of ants and other bits of nature that found their way onto David’s microscope stage. They are not labeled, but I find the mystery of namelessness adds to rather than detracts from their beauty. If you would like the specific names please contact David at [email protected].
