Caitlin, a young slave, who lives during the Civil War works on the Johnson’s plantation in Virginia. This book takes the reader on a journey through the eyes of this young slave as well as through the eyes of a plantation owner’s daughter. Both girls present their sides of the story through letters, diaries, and private thoughts. Though their experiences are very different these unlikely friends survive the times of the Civil War together.
