There is a flux between times of settlers and wanderers. Global society today is once again leaning in favor of the wanderer. However, many wanderers have forgotten how not to live like settlers. This is the problem. As a result of the increased movement of people, ideas, and objects around the world, there has been a shift in notions of citizenship, borders, and ownership. Sociologist John Urry has named this growing circumstance the ‘new mobilities paradigm.’ This thesis takes a close look at children who grow up living in multiple countries. They are often referred to as Third Culture Kids, Global Nomads, 1.5 Generation, and Transnational. By investigating their struggles, how they see themselves in the world, and the objects they choose to surround themselves with, a deep understanding of the direction global society is taking becomes apparent.
