The community living movement in Ontario started in the late 1940s by parents of people who had an intellectual disability. Those parents asked why their sons and daughters had to be sent away to institutions in places like Orillia to get the support they needed; why they could not be supported closer to home and family where they could live a normal life.
Finding the Way Home traces the story of those families, and the work of their provincial Association, Community Living Ontario, in addressing their question over the past 70 plus years.
