An English linguist, John T., receives an e-mail from a German friend suggesting he will find a matching 14th Century Ming vase in Spain. He minds a Chinese musical instrument on the flight to Madrid. He has many friends in Spain and unbeknown to him he is being considered as the new Ambassador to Spain. He is drawn to an attractive crime reporter and they are both involved in a number of escapades, drugs and a personal enemy. With the help of the Guardia and the King of Spain the problems are soon resolved, but not without incidents disrupting the lives of Spanish noblemen.
