Know Your Sewing Machine

Whilst selecting an inappropriate sewing machine will not have the catastrophic results that selecting the wrong needles (see the booklet: Know Your Needles) or the wrong thread (see the booklet: Know Your Thread) might, it could potentially put you off kite building. The sewing machines covered by this booklet are those sold for the domestic, home market. These tend to be fairly universal in what they can do with regards stitch type and fabric type and thickness, whereas industrial machines are typically dedicated to one stitch type and a limited range of fabric types and thicknesses. Additionally this booklet concentrates on lockstitch machines, though it does touch on chainstitch, overlock and coverstitch machines if only to differentiate them.
