A unique set of first person stories collected at the beginning of the 1900s from former slaves, now freed, concerning their daily lives. This book includes first person accounts, both positive and negative, transcribed by the author verbatim, in the colloquial language of each individual. Some may find both the colloquial language and the inclusion of terms now considered degrading to be offensive. At the time of the original publishing these terms were not considered degrading, but descriptive. Please read this book as it was intended.
