PhD Thesis by dr. ir. Ianus Keller on how designers interact with visual material (i.e. the images they use in collages and moodboards) for inspiration. In the thesis a theoretical background (chapter 2), two field studies (chapters 4 and 6) and two working prototypes of design tools (chapters 3 and 5) are presented. The thesis and the designs were defended on November 11, 2005 at the Delft University of Technology, faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. It received a cum laude from an internationally respected doctoral committee.
