A private detective in Jackson, Mississippi, is hired to follow an 18-year-old girl and report to her mother, but after a day on the job, the detective decides he is not a babysitter and quits. The next day the girl goes missing. Driven by guilt, the detective begins to look for her. Complicating the plot are an ex-girlfriend, a love of baseball, a past haunted by the Gulf War, a rock-n-roll band, and a stray cat. Just-N-Case combines the elements of the good detective story with a sympathetic private investigator trying to do the right thing. Along the way, he tries to work out the peripheral complications of his life.
