Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility was the first novel published by Jane Austen and remains perhaps her most loved work. Two sisters, Elinor and Marriane Dashwood, are left with only a small income after the death of their father, and find themselves living in a meagre cottage on the land of a distant relative. But all is not as bad as it seems as in their new home they will experience love, romance and heartbreak. Through all this will sense and sensibility emerge unscathed? Sense and Sensibility was first published in 1811 under the pseudonym “A Lady”.
