The Final Ember

Put this book down, now. It’s dangerous. To be clear, the danger isn’t the book itself but the dark wizards it describes. Ten years ago, after they murdered my mother, my father brought my sister and me safely into hiding. That is, he brought us safely into hiding until about ten minutes ago, when the same wizards destroyed our safe house and nearly killed my sister. To make matters worse, I woke up this morning from a nightmare with a burn on my wrist. Coming from an eighteen-year-old, a bad dream might not be particularly alarming, but, considering everything else that’s happened, my father thinks someone’s attacking my mind. Fortunately, he has a plan—or, at least, he had a plan. My father’s a Knight of the Flame—that’s a band of wizards dedicated to fighting exactly the kind of people who attacked us—one of the best spellbinders alive, and absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately, it just so happens we’ve been separated and, whatever his plan was, I’m pretty sure this wasn’t part of it.
