Government by Treason by John Howland Snow is a 1940s critique of American monetary, economic, and foreign policy, centered on the author’s opposition to centralized financial power and international economic agreements. Snow examines money and banking, foreign loans, public debt, the Federal Reserve, Bretton Woods, international trade, inflation, and what he portrays as the growing influence of international financial institutions over American policy. He argues that these policies weaken American economic independence and individual liberty, and connects them to British imperial interests, foreign aid, communism, and the expansion of international government. The later chapters focus on U.S. foreign policy, the cost of wartime and postwar programs, and what Snow describes as organized political forces behind these developments, concluding with an appeal for a return to constitutional government and greater national independence.
