When Love First Came

Poetry is perhaps the most personal form of writing; and there is no form of poetry more intimate or personal than the love poem. This collection of love poems traces the 46 year long love affair between Joseph Brettle and his future wife Audrey Kinnon, from their first meeting as Salvation Army officer cadets in 1957, through to Audrey's death following a long decline in 2003. These poems tell the story of their journey together. A story of laughter, joy and sadness: Reminding us of the transient nature of love – and of the lasting transformations that it makes in our lives.
