In 1950s San Francisco, debonair, failed book dealer, antique lover, and restaurant critic, Maitland Q. Quandry, opens a PI agency with long time pal Sam Slade who was a Pinkerton agent. After a few successes and a few laughs they find themselves sucked into a serious game of hide and seek by a dead man's last wishes. Soon they are chin deep in disguises, intrigue, double identities, hidden rooms, hit men, homicide detectives, and a luxury yacht. Only when they stumble into the lair of Chinatown's underworld boss do they realize that the prize that will save their lives is the key to the case. While Mr. Chin and the Lady Pink have Quandry on the rack they must decide who died first, who died last, and if thinking badly while in pain means you’re alive.
