When we talk about the issues that matter most to us as loving human beings, we are better equipped to lean towards understanding. Despite our differences we realize there are still ways that we can communicate and come to a resolution. It’s really all about respect. Treat others how you want to be treated. Up for discussion is great a resource for any person, group, or organization to use. I envision people across the world, in classrooms, community centers, and living rooms, where they feel comfortable with sharing their truth, learning something new, and ultimately, help push diversity and equity forward. Poetry has long been known as a tool for learning. Delving into the words often results in different impressions and takeaways. That is the beauty of it. Hearing other’s feedback from the same poem you read may help you understand the topic on another level, or from another perspective. The goal of up for discussion is to nourish the essential attributes that are necessary for us to be active participants in the fight for equity, empathy, and understanding. No matter what age, profession, or economic status we can all benefit from poetry, art, communication, teaching, learning, contemplating, critical thinking, expression, and kindness.
