This book is a fantasy/adventure story set some seventy years after an ice age has devastated the Northern Hemisphere. Land that was once highly industrialised and heavily populated is now covered in a sheet of ice hundreds of feet thick. There are still people living on the ice but they lived in small tribes and struggle to survive in the harsh conditions. The main character in the story is a fourteen year old called Boy. Boy was orphaned at the age of three and was passed from family to family and used as a servant until they found out that he had a special gift. Boy’s gift is that once he has been somewhere he can always find that place again even in the middle of a blizzard. In a land where snow storms and blizzards are every day occurrences, Boy’s gift is very special.
