This is the story of Hugh Proudfoot. Hugh lives in a cold, uncaring utopia-gone-wrong called Sandland. His life is full of mechanics, logic, physics and invention and he wants to leave. Leave indeed, he must, for he has accidentally killed one colleague and maimed another and he is now a marked man.
But how do you leave the only society that you know of? Where do you go to? And how do you do it when you are in love with someone you are not allowed to love?
Hugh’s adventures takes him on a journey by which he questions the society he has come from, the meaning of his own origins and even the extent of his own free will.
