It was a grand experiment – a pocket-sized comic with 100 pages of comic action for the same price that readers otherwise could only get 68 pages! For a short time in the early 1940s, Harvey Comics used this digest-sized format for two exciting titles: Pocket Comics, which ran for four issues (August 1941-January 1942) and in their existing SPEED COMICS #14-16 (September 1941 – January 1942). Alas, the experiment only lasted a short time; perhaps, as legend claims, it was too easy for comic to disappear in pockets without being paid for, or possibly it was simply ahead of its time, because a couple decades later the digest-sized comic would be a staple of Harvey Comics as well as others.
