The Thirteenth Door

Adetokunbo "Toks" Adeyemi is a Lagos-based investigative journalist. He does not believe in spirits. He does not believe in curses. He believes in facts, evidence, and the things he can see with his own two eyes. Then his father dies. The official cause is heart failure. But the village elders refuse to discuss the details. They refuse to bury the body. And they keep whispering about a door in the forest. Toks returns home to Odo – a village that is not on any map – determined to uncover the truth. What he finds is a secret his father kept for thirty years. A secret carved into thirteen doors hidden deep in the bush. Twelve doors lead to spirits that have been named, honored, tamed. The thirteenth door leads to something else. An Abiku. A child who died and returned. Then died again. And again. Now it is not a child anymore. It is hunger. It is rage. It is the sound of a knock when no one is at the door. The door is open. The spirit is hunting. And Toks has thirteen nights to close it before it claims him.
