100 Days of Solitude
haiku in a time of distancing and discovery

Habituellement imprimé en 3-5 jours ouvrés
100 DAYS OF SOLITUDE is a beautiful collection of full-color photographs with related haiku written during the first 100 days of coronavirus lockdown in New York. When the official lockdown began on March 22, 2020, most of Paul Block’s quiet moments were at home, watching the garden, the weather, the little creatures gathering near his porch. He began taking photographs, then decided to add a haiku to each. Why haiku? As an out-of-practice novelist with an aging attention span, he figured 17 syllables was about enough for the time being. So each day he took a different photo and wrote a related haiku. As the weather improved, Paul started walking each morning, and during those outings, he composed haiku and dictated them onto his iPhone. On occasion he used his phone to photograph something on the path that had spurred his poetic creation. He quickly discovered that his walking meditation was a path to going deeper into his creative self. Paul decided to continue for 100 days, and this book is the result of what ultimately became a joyful, effortless effort, filled with humor, insight, and self-discovery.
