Between 800 AD and 1050 AD the Age of the Vikings existed. There are stories about the westward emigration from Norway new countries and areas. The Norsemen sailed in search of home and adventure. Discoveries were made by accident. Ships were driven by the wind from known islands to the unknown.
There is even my favorite childhood story - Three Billy Goats Gruff.
