Democracy is not a tradition. Equality, freedom, and justice are not traditions. They are all equal and constant practices that must be constantly edified for their own purification. A civil society is not one that soothes itself with material consumption looking the other way at injustice and inequality. Civil is not a collective sense of apathy toward the less fortunate. Civil is attacking these issues and solving such problems with non violent discourse and impassioned example. A democracy is not the latent preservation of racist nor sexist ideologies that have been long discarded, dismissed, or dismantled by a formerly much more racist and sexist democratic populous. America’s most racist, sexist, and openly bias tendencies were ultimately upended by America’s historically most racist, sexist, and bias group. Only the prodding of civil disobedience willfully used by minority groups introduced the majority to these ideas of change…
