The Ahern Mile

This is the story of the near impossible winter crossing in the backcountry of Glacier National Park. Having completed five trips during the winter of 2006, Richard Layne embarked on his final goal. What had become almost the norm on his Glacier trips, he was once again wrong about what was waiting for him inside a blinding storm and avalanches. The photography in The Ahern Mile, like its predecssor, Without Incident, might be the only photos in existence showing Glacier National Park's backcountry during the winter.
