I arrived on the Isle of Man at the beginning of 2020 already carrying the damage of a life lived in full contact. Years of martial arts, teaching, striving, and pushing through had left their mark: physically, neurologically, and existentially. The life I had built around movement and mastery had begun to unravel, and for a while I no longer knew who I was without it. So I did the only thing I could still do. I walked. Not with a plan, not for exercise, not to improve myself. I walked because it was the one form of movement that did not ask me to prove anything. I walked the coastal paths, woodland trails, wet pavements, and quiet streets of the Isle of Man. Slowly, sometimes painfully, often without any insight at all. But over time, step by step, something began to shift. My body moved, and my mind moved with it. I began taking notes. First small reflections, then questions, memories, fragments of philosophy, and simple walking practices. Eventually, those fragments became this book. The Walking Philosopher is not a guidebook, and it is not a self-help manual. It is a field companion for anyone who has found themselves disoriented by life and suspects that the way back may not be through pushing harder, but through slowing down, listening differently, and remembering how to be fully human. Blending personal experience, philosophical reflection, research, and practical walking exercises, this book invites you to return to what matters, one step at a time.
