"Healing" was the theme of IDUNNA issue #99 (Spring 2014) published by the Troth. Shirl Sazynski gives us a look at the obscure Norse goddess of healing, Eir. Kveldúlfr Gundarsson surveys "healing Traditions in the Heathen North," looking at the evidence for healing herbs and amulets and at general pre-Christian understandings of health, disease, and the beings that caused or cured them. Ben Waggoner translates a section of an old saga, "The Saga of the Sworn Brothers," that gives us a look into battlefield medicine in ancient times, Karen Carlson looks at Old High German healing charms, Diana Paxson also considers the use of old charms, and Rob Schreiwer introduces us to healing plant lore from the Pennsylvania German culture. Su Eaves brings us into the present day with an account of how her Heathen faith and community helped her fight and survive cancer.
