Western development and that of the world can be categorized as capital's systematic prioritizing of time over space. As time became more and more understood as a set of discrete units that could be exploited as a commodity, the prevailing social time structures could not withstand the seductive pledge of capital. This has led to the current experience of simultaneity in which space, identity, and locality have all been dissolved. It is precisely this bifurcation of space and time that is the focus of this piece. This project tries to usurp this trend by using the very symbols of globalization to reunify the time-space continuum and create identity. This time[less] method will be “historical” without the mimetic nostalgia that permeates most discussions of contextualism. The project involves the reutilization of the abandoned subway tunnels in Cincinnati, OH.
