The author is a geologist and a private pilot. He has chosen the "nom de plume" of his grandfather, Andrew Lafayette Stoltz, who was instrumental in teaching him the worth of building things with his own two hands. Over the course of his career, the author has worked in the oil/gas, mining, environmental, and consulting arenas, as well as teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in geology and computer science.
