Being confined has a way of taking a man and turning him into something other than what God created and intended for him to be. In order to avoid this devilish transformation, a man has to find a way to transcend his circumstance. Poetry is what freed me from prison, long before I was released. The poems in this volume were written during a 30-year sentence I was serving at (MSP) Missouri State Penetentiary; 17 of which I completed, beginning in August of 1994. A very inexperienced writer and virgin poet, I wasn't confined by many of the rules that surround poetry. All I wanted to do was WRITE, and that's exactly what I did. I documented the good, the bad and the ugly. I wrote about life, love and loss; fear, faith and forgiveness. I confessed it all and now I share it with you in this timeless, treasure piece. Take a chance and peep inside the mind of a poetic prisoner; if you dare. I'm sure you'll enjoy. The Author, George Silcky Spann
