Welcome to Great Basin Buckaroos! I'm your author, JoAnna Lamb. I hope to bring you literature relative to the lifestyle we live out here in the West. Where is 'out here'? The Great Basin Region isn't so much a place as it is a lifestyle. The cowboys are referred to as "Buckaroos" deriving from the Spanish word "Vaquero" There is a lot of Spanish influence over the area handed down from the Original Californio's of the mid 1800's. The way they handle stock, make good horses and the gear they use has been handed down for many generations.Ranching and Buckarooing are family affairs out here.The children are riding as soon as they can sit a horse and the roles of men and women are equal.It's a good life but no less dangerous than it was over 100 years ago. The terrain is harsh, remote and beautiful. The weather and the stock are both unpredictable. They wouldn't have it any other way!
