Ingeborg Lauterstein
Ingeborg Lauterstein is the author of "The Water Castle," the sequel "Vienna Girl," and "Shoreland." She was born in Vienna Austria and began to write as a young child. The war broke out while she was in a Scottish boarding school. Later she became the youngest student at the Glasgow School of Art. She received awards as a painter, also a Hospital Field scholarship, graduated with honors and exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy. In Austria Oskar Kokoschka would later sign some of her studies. After the war she taught Art and painted in Vienna. She came to America to study with Joseph Albers at Black Mountain College. The poet Charles Olson found her to be his most promising student during this period and encouraged her novella. Later Catherine Ann Porter and Allan Tate selected "Morning Light" for a Double Day award. She studied at the New School mostly with Caroline Gordon, but also studied with Margaret Young and Alice Morris. Learn more at http://www.ingeborglauterstein.com
