LANDFALL: Aubade

After falling in love with the characters in LANDFALL, many readers asked for a more detailed account of the wedding and all-too-brief honeymoon of Captain Sir Edward Pelham and his bride Sophie. AUBADE fulfills this request. As always, the dynamic tension between the captain’s private and public selves leads to a complex interplay of events and emotions. Aboard his ship, he enjoys total command – or at least, the illusion of it, though his steward may think otherwise. Ashore, Edward finds himself unable to control much that is of the keenest import to him. Yet he must find the husband, father and lover he is called-upon to be, in sometimes surprising and challenging circumstances, as well as the captain when required, in this by-turns humorous, touching, sensual and surprising glimpse into private worlds: the men he commands, the family he grew up with back in England, and the new family he has just acquired – including a spirited young daughter!
