Instinct and Mind

What was it that pushed that first little being, out of the woods into the open space of the great meadows, to stand up firmly on his two legs, to work on stone, wood and metal, to build houses and societies, to reflect his thoughts on clay or paper, and finally to build the global community of information and the Internet? Was it the planned instinct, or the unpredictable mind?
