A Study in Scarlet is the 1887 detective novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle that first introduced the world to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson. It is one of only four full-length novels in the original Holmes canon and serves as the definitive origin story for the most famous partnership in detective fiction.
