On a foggy morning in May 1927 a tall young man took off in a small aeroplane from an airfield near New York.
He flew alone: north along the American coast towards Canada, then across the Atlantic to Ireland and England, and then to France.
Thousands of people were waiting for him, cheering and clapping.
After more than 33 hours and 3,600 miles Charles Lindbergh landed safely.
He had suddenly become the world’s first superstar.
Lindbergh had changed world flying for ever.
