Italian Sabre in the Method of Giuseppe Radaelli offers a revised translation of Capt. Settimo Del Frate's award winning 1876 textbook for the Royal Italian Army's fencing master school that was based in Milano, charged with producing fencing masters for the Cavalry and Mounted Artillery regiments. In addition to the translation, The Modern Practice of Radaellian Sabre adds an additional book explaining and expanding Del Frate's work to make it more useful and complete for those who did not have the benefit of growing up under a fencing master of the system. Maestro Radaelli's sabre method first came to prominence in the Monferrato Light Cavalry Regiment and late spread through the whole of the mounted services of the Italian Army. It was used on horseback and on foot, it won Olympic glory, defended honor, and served a nation. Proponents of Radaelli's method, like Italo Santelli, Ferdinando Masiello, Giuseppe Magrini, Luigi Barbasetti, and their students, spread this method of sabre fencing throughout Europe, the U.K., U.S.A., and South America from the last quarter of the nineteenth century through WWII.
