an Introduction: This work exists in-between the histories and cultures of the gift and the free and there respective economies. This research is interested in the exploration of commodity, the complexities and incentives of exchange, and the latent cultural value that resides in both. It questions exchange, economy, digital bits and physical pieces, and the quantitative and qualitative conditioning we undergo as a culture on a daily basis. The work aims to establish relationships and explore ways of creating and understanding value in our contemporary digital culture. The work is about extinction and re-invention, and the making of value-laden artifacts.
