Against her better judgement but fired by curiosity, she agrees to go to his farm where she meets his stepson and daughter. Their behaviour is bizarre and she becomes determined to manage the situation for his sake as his condition deteriorates. Guthrie’s wife is absent but her influence is ever present and all of them have scores to settle. An Exchange of Fire It is 1944. Dora is a virtuoso pianist who, after initial hostility falls in love with Dieter Cordus, head of the occupying forces, after he requisitions the Villa Berceuse where Dora and her mother live. Dora’s mother, friends Jack and Briony and housekeeper, Hannah Greener, all have secrets they are desperate to keep – some succeed and some do not.
