La The history of Brazil—from its discovery, through the era of colonial slavery, the independence from Portugal, the establishment of the Republic, and up to the present day—forms a complex historical trajectory. These events are closely interconnected with the country’s social and cultural development, within which Capoeira itself took shape. Born in Brazil and later spreading throughout the world, Capoeira has preserved its identity thanks to the strong determination of its practitioners, who have defended and transmitted it across generations. Today, Capoeira also engages with contemporary issues, particularly as a factor of social integration and as a means of safeguarding identity and restoring dignity to Afro-descendant communities. In particular, it plays an i mportant role in the protection and inclusion of marginalized children and adolescents. Through an anthropological investigation carried out as field research at the Axé Capoeira Firenze school, where my main informant was Mestre Boca Nua, I was able to gather several interesting insights. His first attempts to introduce this dance-fight to Florenc e through its cultural roots were not easy. At the beginning, many Italians perceived this art simply as a folkloric and acrobatic spectacle. Nevertheless, through great determination and inner strength, he succeeded in founding his school. Today, his students internalize Capoeira through a process of acculturation that was initially foreign to them. Once they learn the foundations of this philosophy of life, they begin to express themselves through the jogo of Capoeira within the microcosm of the roda. What they learn there is then carried into the macrocosm of their everyday lives, shaping the way they exist and act in the world. Capoeira and its identity, now situated within another culture—our own.
