Every great movie ends one scene too soon. The screen goes dark, the room empties, and the characters you loved go on living somewhere you can never follow. The pilot who flew off alone to find her on a distant world. The sleepers who woke too early on a starship and quietly turned it into a garden. The visitors who promised to come back in three thousand years, and then were simply gone.
Mikel knows. He built a way to find out.
A quiet prodigy who has loved movies his whole life, Mikel created the Altertives: a technology that lets him step inside the films he loves and carry their stories past the credits, into the continuations, the deleted scenes, and the endings they never got to have. He has made hundreds of them, and he watches them as he sleeps, as he runs, as he moves through a quiet world of endless twilight where there is no crime, no fear, and all the room in the universe to simply be.
Then a small box appears on his doorstep, and the voice inside it says hello. A woman he has never met begins to surface in his films, sealed behind a wall in a place that should not exist, looking straight at him and mouthing two words: Find me. And across the city, on a high balcony, a stranger catches his eye by chance, almost as if it were meant to be.
As Mikel falls for the artist on the balcony, and for the impossible voice in the box, he uncovers the truth about his own creation: that his Altertives were never only about movies, and that the door between one world and the next is thinner, and far more dangerous, than anyone ever dreamed.
For everyone who has ever wished a favorite film didn't have to end, Altertive is a love story, a mystery, and a love letter to the movies, built around one haunting question: how do you ever really know what's real?
