Some people spend their whole life trying to reach everyone else's baseline. Lynn is one of them. The cost, it turns out, is not sustainable. Ashlynn Widjaja moved to the Netherlands from Indonesia because her partner asked her to. That should have been the first sign. The Porcelain Mask follows Lynn across three cities and three versions of herself: Jakarta, where she first learned that she was different. Maastricht, where she followed someone who didn't stay, found a friend group, a new partner, a diagnosis, and then lost most of it. Brisbane, where she did everything right and ended up alone anyway. She is very good at leaving. Less good at what comes after. She can function now. She just can't figure out what for.
