Self Reliance

"Self-Reliance," first published in 1841 as part of Emerson's 'Essays: First Series,' was a key document in the American Transcendentalist movement, and a primary influence on Thoreau. It was also the most complete and articulate expression of American individualism, and as such remains influential down to the present time.
