This novel is about the influence of mothers on their sons. Men strive to live up to the expectations of their mothers; or to break away only to fail and to die; or just to run back home. James is a doctor in the Oxford Kidney Unit and seeks to kill his wife while his patients Dave and Phil deal with their own life and death challenges.
