different ways to record light

The photographs, videos and objects in this body of work investigate the different ways in which identity, as formed through one’s personal memory, collective memory and relationship with popular culture, creates a framework for how one comes to make sense of the perceived world. Through calling attention to the moments where the influence of my own personal identity is evident, this work starts to map out the authority that this identity has over the understanding of something seen or experienced. Through using light as a metaphor for common optical, perceptual, physiological and phenomenological experiences, my work develops a discourse that explores how our experiences are mediated by the images that we come into contact with on a daily basis.
