Year 27 is a deeply personal collection of poetry written throughout my transformative year of life.
These poems trace the emotional landscape of myself as a woman navigating some of life’s most profound experiences at once: the heartbreak of miscarriage, the uncertainty and hope of pregnancy, the fear and love surrounding a NICU journey, and the beautiful yet complicated reality of becoming a mother.
Through these pages, motherhood is shown in its entirety—not only as rewarding and beautiful, but also as exhausting, overwhelming, isolating, and deeply human. The collection explores the emotions of early postpartum life, including the vulnerability of the weeks following birth and the process of finding myself again while learning how to care for someone else.
Beyond motherhood, these poems enter the difficult territory of family, illness, addiction, grief, and helplessness. They reflect on witnessing things unravel and trying to make sense of circumstances I cannot control.
Written from the heart of my twenty-seventh year, this collection is an honest record of a season filled with loss and new life, fear and joy, loneliness and love, heartbreak and hope.
These are poems about becoming. About surviving the moments that change you. About loving deeply even when life hurts. And about finding pieces of yourself in the middle of it all.
