As a pediatric occupational therapist working for over 16 years in early intervention and school board settings, I have realized that there is often a disconnect when it comes to transitioning services. This manual serves as a guide to transitioning OT services from early intervention (ages 0-3) to school board services. I have found that some parents are a little unsure of what type of OT the school board will provide and may be reluctant to transition services. This guide will familiarize you with the process of an early intervention to school transition, the IEP process (Individualized Education Plan), and the areas that occupational therapy will address in the school setting.
