Presence is neither cultivated nor maintained; it is recognized when effort withdraws and the future no longer functions as justification for the present. Drawing on philosophy, depth psychology, and process thought, the book dismantles modern assumptions of instrumentality, productivity, and availability-as-use. It questions the compulsion to optimize experience, to extract meaning, or to validate life by outcome. What remains is not withdrawal, but embeddedness—life encountered without leverage or claim.
