In 1917, when he was about 19 years old, Paddy Delaney joined Oglaigh na hEireann, in his native Ballyhaunis, County Mayo, Ireland. He joined to fight for the independence of his country from foreign rule and to establish an Irish Republic. The price he and his family paid was immeasurable, but today most of his country is in fact a free and independent republic. In this book, the author; Paddy's great nephew, tells his story.
