Yeme Hailu – poet, short-story writer – is one of the new emerging authors today. With her first poetry "A Day On The Moon" award, she is determined to write some more in the future. She hopes the educational short story "Sunshine The Proud Golden Fur Cat" will be once more a winner. Her work has been translated in more than 25 countries, and it looks like it will continue. Born in 1957 in Addis Ababa, Hailu had an unconventional childhood. Her father was a natural genious Inventor. Hailu grew up in the wilds of Addis, sleeping under the stars and becoming educated on dirt roads and in swamps. When she did eventually start a formal education – in a classroom in a school – she felt horribly constrained. It was a radical change from her former nomadic, free existence.
