Clinet has degrees in Biology and Physics from Appalachian State University (ASU), as well as high school science teaching certification. He has taught in the public school system, and at ASU for the academically gifted program Summer Ventures (North Carolina School of Math and Science). He also taught a Federally funded program called Upward Bound designed to excite academically eligible high school children for college. Master Furr is certified to teach Martial Arts by the World Mosul Kwan Association, The International Kung-fu Arnis Association, and Blue Ridge Kung-fu Arnis Academy of Boone NC. In 1979, he began studying many styles of martial arts including (5 Animals) Sil Lum Kung Fu  ( Shaolin ), Praying Mantis and Monkey Kung Fu, Tai Chi Chuan, Judo, Shotokan Karate, Lung Shou Pai, Mauy-Tai, Wing Chun, Ninjujitsu  Taijitsu, Tanto Jitsu, AikiJujitsu, Sasamba-Kali-Arnis and Modern Arnis.
