Doug Downie is a retired evolutionary biologist and entomologist, currently living in Sacramento, California, after 8 years in South Africa, and more recently almost 7 years with the State of California. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers, as well as poems and short stories in literary journals in South Africa and in the US. He is also a folk, blues, and jazz guitarist.
